The South County Storm will certainly be a young team this year, but that works well with their recurring mission.

The Storm have aimed to be a girls hockey development factory in recent years. Plenty of good players have come through the program and gone off to play in college. A ton of underclassmen fill up the lines this year, but that just means they’re getting an early start in their process.

Behind a hat trick from Payton Abrams, the Storm put any doubts about their status as contenders to rest by beating La Salle 5-0. It was the Storm’s ninth straight win, following two ties to start the season.....

NORTH SMITHFIELD — If there is such a thing as a measuring-stick game late in the season for a second-place team, South County girls hockey co-op passed by a mile.

 

The Storm trounced La Salle, 5-0, on Saturday night to remain unbeaten on the year and a point behind first-place Smithfield/Coventry/Moses Brown with three league games left in the regular-season.......

The next generation of girls hockey players in South County had to be buzzing as they left Boss Arena on Saturday night. The South County Storm co-op squad welcomed them in for “Girls Hockey Night” and defeated Mount St. Charles 6-0......

This year, Prout and Chariho join the existing trio of North Kingstown, South Kingstown and Narragansett to form the South County Storm co-op girls ice hockey team.

 

Previously, the only option for girl hockey players at Prout and Chariho was to play on the boys team. Now, three athletes from Prout and five from Chariho serve as reinforcements to a Storm team that made the semifinals the last four years in a row but haven’t made it past that point......
